Happy Friday Friends!

I am so, so happy it’s the weekend! This back to school stuff can be tiring, especially for this Mama!

This week I was going through some pictures from this summer and decided I would share some with you. Every year, we spend a week in the mountains. No matter how many times I’ve been there, each trip back makes me stand back in awe. The beauty. The majesty. Just the absolute beautiful creation of God. So this post will mostly be pictures… hope you enjoy!

A refreshing dip in the crystal clear lake water!

This is one of our kid’s favorite spot in the park. Red Rock Canyon is such a neat place to visit… you can walk along this little canyon for quite a long time. Sometimes the water gets fairly deep and it’s tricky to stay dry. It’s definitely our favorite spot ever to have a picnic … the views are out of this world!

There is so much beautiful drift wood that washes up on shore…

and these two had so much fun building all kinds of things with Daddy! Teepees big enough to sit in, a “log cabin”, and more!

We love to hike many of the beautiful trails in the mountains and this pictures shows you how touch this climb was! We were out of breath a couple of times! Glad we kept going though, because the view on top was ahhh-mazing…

The hike ends at the top of the mountain with a 360degree view! Here’s a view of the village of Waterton… the curvy lake on the top right corner of the picture leads into Glacier National Park in Montana.

Prince of Wales Hotel from the top…

There is ALWAYS a silly picture… or two… or three with this silly boy around!

High tea at the beautiful Prince of Wales Hotel…

A gorgeous day on the water…

Do you live close to the mountains and get to visit them? Hope you have a very happy weekend! Thanks so much for coming by!

– FROM MY HEART – | Joy in Our Home

Good Morning Everyone!

Today I have something different to share with you! There’s a tour going around in “Blogland” where we get to share a little of ourselves. Krista from The Happy Housie nominated me. Basically you get nominated by someone, and then you nominate three other bloggers.

A little bit about Krista… the first time I ever stumbled upon her blog, I was “in love”. Her home on a lake is such a happy, colorful place. She has amazing talent to mix colors and patterns… totally not something I’m comfortable doing, but she makes it look so easy and beautiful! She is also a blogger I look up to and has been there to answer many of my new-blogger questions. She is a real sweetheart and has encouraged me lots in this new journey and I’m so glad our paths crossed because of blogging! If you’ve never visited her blog, you need to check it out… I know you’ll love her as much as I do. Here is her Lake Cottage Style Summer House Tour Deck that I’ve been especially crushing on this summer!

 1. What am I working on?

I usually have one hundred 5 or 6 projects on the go… and sometimes I struggle finishing them. That’s why this past April I jumped at the chance to participate in a one room challenge and makeover our Master Bedroom. It is so rewarding to actually finish a project. Currently, my husband and I are tackling our fireplace in the living room. Check out the before pictures here. It really has a weird/awkward mantle and we are going to install new tile, get rid of the oak and hopefully build a new mantle. Another area we’re working on (and almost complete) is our back yard (now, I know that’s not really part of our home, but for me the deck is one of the most important features of a home!) It has been an ongoing project for the last 2 years. This summer, we’ve added a covered deck, maintenance-free railing and laid some more sod. I hope to do a post on it when it’s all done!

One of the features in our Master Bedroom is this Board and Batten Headboard that my husband built!

 2. How does my work differ from others of it’s genre?

Honestly, I’m not really sure about this one! I don’t know if my blog really stands out from many of the other fabulous ones out there. I guess, no two styles are alike and hopefully, as I continue blogging my own style and what I love will shine through from my blog.

 3 .Why do I write/create what I do?

I think one of the biggest reasons, aside from hopefully inspiring someone else, is to get some things crossed of our to-do list. Blogging is a fun way to document them all. Before we ever started this blog, I’d take before and after pictures of projects but they’d stay in a folder on the computer and we’d never do anything with them! Now, I get to write about them and show my readers that if we can do it, so can you!!! Plus, I have loved Pinterest from day 1! I love looking at all the inspiration on there and our blog is a place where I can write about and document some “pins” that I’ve actually tried!  I’ve also been reading blogs for 5 or 6 years now and often wished I could start my own and this past year, I finally dived in! I’m absolutely loving it so far!!

4. How does my writing/ creating process work?

Oh dear! I’m not sure how to explain this one…  Once I’ve settled on a project or recipe I’m going to make I think it through. And rethink it again. I figure out what supplies I’ll need, which ones I have to buy, when I’ll go to the store and when I’ll actually get down to working on it. Throughour the day, when I’m cooking or weeding or whenever else I have 5 minutes alone, I think about the writing process. But don’t get me wrong— the words don’t always flow easily when it’s finally time to sit down at the computer and write about it! ha! I also talk EVERYTHING over with my husband. His opinion matters more than anything and I love hearing his imput and suggestions. So, if I have a project in mind, I’ll share it with him and more often than not, he jumps in on the fun as well and we work together!

And now I nominate these three fabulous ladies! I look forward to next Monday, August 25th, when they’ll share their Tour Through Blogland!

Amy & Vicky from Canary Street Crafts

Probably one of the only mother/daughter team of bloggers that I know, I love following these talented ladies as they share all kinds of DIY projects. Amy recently redid her little boy’s bedroom in a Vintage Airplane Theme and you have to check it out if you haven’t seen it! They share family friendly recipes, home décor DIY, and seasonal projects. Amy is one of the sweetest ladies I’ve “met” in this blogging journey and is always so upbeat and positive! I know you’ll love their tour next week!

Tara from My Anything and Everything

Tara is another blogger I’m happy to follow! Her blog has a wonderful mixture of everything, just like the name of it! Her Crate Coffee Table is one of my favorite project of hers, but also love the recipes and kids stuff she shares! Look forward to getting to know this talented lady even more as we blog along!

Amanda from Dwelling In Happiness

Amanda is a fairly new blogger and I’m so happy to have come across her blog! She has an adorable lil’ family and shares great tutorials like the DIY “Shower Thoughts” Towel Rack. I look forward to some more great projects from this sweet lady and excited to see how her blog grows!

Looking forward to your tours next week, ladies!

Thanks for stopping by!

-Kendra

Hi Friends! Hope you are all staying cozy and warm this week!

A few weeks ago something was said to me and I’m sure the person that said it, did not realize how much those words meant to me. I was at our children’s school volunteering for the day and was outside at recess time playing with our little daughter. The bell rang and as we walked up to the door, amongst almost 600 children, there was our young son, waiting at the door to say bye to Mommy. I bent down to kiss him and I told him I loved him and the teacher standing holding the door, smiled at us and said “I hope he knows how lucky he is”.

That comment brought a smile to my face instantly. My first thought was, “No, I’m the one that is lucky, or more accurately, blessed.” I assume this teacher was thinking, what a lucky little boy he is to have a Mommy love him like that. And as I went home to a quiet house that afternoon, I pondered the question… what legacy am I leaving for these two little ones that we have been trusted with to raise? There are certain things we want them to grow up knowing and as I placed that little kiss on his sweet face, it was my way of showing him how precious he is to me.

I then began thinking of my own Mom. Her childhood was nothing like mine, or the one we are giving our children right now. Hers was difficult and I often feel very sad she was robbed of a happy carefree childhood. However, I am so thankful she didn’t follow in the footsteps her parents did, but showed me and my sisters all the love of a caring and loving mom. Whether it was in the boundaries her and Dad set, the clothes she made us, or the countless other things she did, I knew I was loved. She left many lasting impressions that I will treasure forever. So, now it’s my turn to leave impressions for our own little ones…. to show them in the big things and in the little things, that they are loved.  I love the lyrics of this song and would love to share it with you. Here it is, beginning at the second verse.

Time has passed so quickly, now our turn has come.

We’re building our legacy, to leave these little ones.

It’s time spent together, ’round the old fireplace.

Playing games, praying together, and seeking His face.

Chorus:

She passed down our legacy, that keeps marching on.

Through her children and their children, through their message and their song.

She told us of Jesus and showed us His love everyday.

As she followed the Master, in her own simple way.

Now everyday you’re building a legacy, did you know?

It’s something that will follow you, but must be built before you go.

Will your children spend your treasures, on things that will not last?

Or will you leave them a legacy, that they too can pass?

Until next time,

Love,    Kendra
