How to Create a Fall Outdoor Tablescape | Joy in Our Home

Enjoy a lovely meal outside this fall… using décor straight from nature.

I’m so excited to share my Fall Outdoor Tablescape with ya’ll today! I had so much fun creating this table spread and loved that I used mostly natural elements in my décor!

When my friend Tara of Lehman Lane invited me to take part in her Fall Outdoor Décor Tour I was so excited… and then quickly remembered I don’t have a decorated fall porch to share this year. Our rental home has a lovely front porch and I can just about imagine how beautiful and cozy it would look with our deck furniture on it. But the less we bring to this house, the less we have to move back to our own home when the time comes! So all that’s gracing our covered porch this fall is some mum plants 🙂

So, I decided to show you a little different outdoor décor today. Anyone that knows me, knows I LOVE eating outside. So I thought instead of eating off of paper plates this time around, I’d use our good dinnerware and set a beautiful fall tablescape! If you want to grab a Pumpkin Spice Latte or a mug of Chai Tea, go ahead! And then come along as I give you a little tour of our picnic spot.

I’ve wanted to set a pretty outdoor tablescape for quite some time now. We’ve been having the most gorgeous fall weather and this week seemed like the perfect opportunity to get out there and do it!

As I thought of decorating my table, I knew I wanted mostly natural elements to decorate with. The trees are so vibrant in yellows right now and the leaves looked beautiful against the white plates!

I love these pretty little white pumpkins my husband brought home from the store this week and they were perfect for spreading out on the table.

I used some branches right from the trees to create a tall centerpiece. Candles always add such a cozy feel to any meal and I knew they’d be the perfect to add to my table.

One of my very favorite plants are succulents and I knew I wanted to use these plants on my table. These two plants are actually from my sister’s wedding this past July. I was her maid of honour and the succulent was in my bouquet. The florist had said they can’t be replanted as their roots have been “stripped”…. but after the wedding I stuck the flowers in waterbottles and they drove the 1,000 km home with us. I planted them and they’re thriving! So proud of my nearly-nonexistent green thumb!

I love the contrast of the yellow and red leaves!! I had thought about buying a fall bouquet but really loved using the leaves right from the woods behind the table!

Aren’t these mini pumpkins the cutest thing ever? As soon as we enter a grocery store, my eyes are drawn to pumpkins. Any shape, color and size. Imperfections and all.

I’m so happy how my tablescape turned out and here’s hoping we have a nice, long warm fall so we can do this again!

I hope you all enjoyed my Outdoor Fall Tablescape and maybe even inspired you to get outside and enjoy a pretty meal outdoors!

Before you go, be sure to check out all these other beautiful outdoor spaces!! So much pretty fall décor!

How to Make Faux Pumpkins Look Real | Joy in Our Home

An easy and quick way to make dollar store pumpkins look like real pumpkins… with the help of some of the best DIY tools!

This post is sponsored by Home Right and contains affiliate links. For more information, read my full disclosure here.

I’m sure by now we all know the power of paint. It’s life changing, I tell ya!

I remember as a young teenager I fell in love with the color teal. My mom painted my bookcase, shelves, some of my décor and my switch plate cover teal. I thought changing all my bedroom décor to my new favorite color was the best thing ever.

Then came spray paint and it was the next best thing and soo easy to transform all those neglected and ugly thrift store and garage sale finds!

And then, last month I was introduced to THE best thing ever… in the world of DIY, that is. When we painted our front door we used our Home Right paint sprayer, and seriously friends, I’ll never use any other spray painter. Combined with the large spray shelter, it made painting our door soo, soo easy!

Fast forward a few weeks (and a water break on the second storey of our house) and suddenly we’re out of our home and we don’t have a garage or backyard to do all our DIY projects in. And just like that, I’ve come to appreciate my tabletop Home Right shelter that much more. We’re currently living in a rental home while our home is under construction so the Home Right Table Top Spray Shelter is my lifesaver.

I love how it folds up so nice and flat and doesn’t take up any room at all. The directions are attached to the bag (they must’ve been thinking of me when they designed it, as I’ll never lose it now!!) It pops up super easy and with the help of the directions, it only took a minute to fold back up!

To make these pumpkins you’ll need:

Once you have your little collection of the fakest looking pumpkins around, you an get started!

After removing all the stems, I placed the pumpkins inside my tabletop shelter and was ready to paint! I gave them all one coat of white. I then used a foam brush and lightly brushed CIL Honey Frost on all the pumpkins. It gave them that perfect off-white color that natural pumpkins have. For the stems I painted them a blend of brown and honey frost just to give them the perfect stem color. I absolutely love how they all turned out and am excited to display them throughout our home!!

I’d like to say a huge thank you to Home Right for providing this shelter and for making it so easy to recommend this great product!

Thank you all for stopping by today and happy pumpkin making!!

One Room Challenge {Week 2}: Progress on a Board and Batten Stairway | Joy in Our Home

Here we are at week 2 of the One Room Challenge… already!!!? After completing our daughter’s bedroom, bathroom and our master bedroom, I know all too well how stressful big of a challenge these ORCs are!!

We are anxiously waiting for LOTS of renos to be completed in our home this month and what better way to make the time go by faster than jumping on board for another ORC! The weeks will fly by so quickly and before we know it, November will be here and we’ll be calling the movers to move us home!!! Can you all just cross your fingers for us that everything stays right on schedule? Pretty please? I’m looking at my calendar and it’s chock-full of appointments and it’s getting so.darn.exciting!!

Last week I shared our Stairway Plan and even though it’s technically not a room, I’m still super excited to bring some character and farmhouse charm to our stairway! At the top of our stairs we have 3 bedroom doors and 1 bathroom door that we’re going to change and we’ve fallen in love these gorgeous ones from Masonite.

Aren’t they pretty? I love the design of the panels!!

Another big decision for this stairway makeover was the flooring. My husband and I agreed that we wanted to do away with carpet in our bedrooms. I’ll be super honest now… if I was diligent at dusting and vacuuming I might’ve considered it. But seeing the dust in the corners where a vacuum cleaner can’t reach and the thought of vacuuming our stairway totally persuaded us to go the route of no-carpet upstairs. I can’t keep track of how many Saturdays we spent at flooring stores pouring through hardwood, laminate and vinyl planking samples and getting the best floor education so we could make the best choice for our family! We brought home samples upon samples and once we laid them against our furniture, walls, kitchen cabinets, we both fell in love with this beautiful vinyl planking from Mannington Floors.

Knots, scrape marks and distressing make this wood look truly weathered and worn. I love that it features the characteristics found in old country barns!

I know you’re anxiously waiting to see what this week’s progress is….

And there you have it… it’s not huge, but it’s a start! Goodbye carpet, goodbye! I cannot wait to see what these stairs look like covered in our gorgeous new flooring!!

Excited for what week 3 of the One Room Challenge will bring! And if you want to see a ton more makeovers in the process be sure to pop over to our wonderful host, Linda and check them all out at Calling It Home!

Thank you to HomeRight, my amazing sponsor for the ORC! Can’t wait to show you how I put some of their amazing products to use next week!
