Simple Farmhouse Christmas Tour 2018 | Joy in Our Home

Join me as we take a little walk through our home and I share how our family decorates in simplicity for this season.
Welcome to our home… over the past couple of years I’ve learned to appreciate our home in a whole new way. And even as the Christmas season is upon us, I strive to make our home a warm and inviting place.

My home tour today is a simple one. It’s not extravagant and it’s much, much more than a building made out of walls, a roof and decor. It’s a place where my sweet family lives, where our loved ones gather, and where most of our memories are made.

A big thank you to Kelly from North Country Nest for organizing this home tour … I know a lot of work goes on behind the scenes but thank you for gathering this amazing group of ladies together! You’ll find all the other ladies sharing their homes at the end of my post.

Now come on in make yourselves at home…

This is our living room and I added a faux garland to our fireplace, one of my favorite pictures of an old barn and some candlesticks.

Like many other things around our home, my husband built this coffee table for me. It makes it all the more special when I know the hard work and love that goes into things.

Around the corner from our living room is our office. This used to be our play room but now it’s because much more functional with our piano, a desk and a small couch in it. My husband built the shelves and they’re so fun to decorate for the different seasons. He also made the trees on the top shelf and I love how they turned out!

On the other side of our office is our piano and its gotten a workout these last few weeks. Our children both take piano lessons and I’ll never tire hearing them play.

My office chair got a little sprig of red berries and I attempted some chalkart on the chalkboard my husband made for me but I’ll keep practicing! 😉

Next, let’s take a peek into our kitchen and see what’s baking there…

“Someone” had a birthday this past week and my husband baked this gingerbread cake for me! And yes, it was every bit as delicious as it looked!

This 3 tiered tray is a favorite little addition to our kitchen that I made using some things my mom threw in the garbage when they were moving a few years ago. You’ll have to take a peek back to read more about it. 🙂

Last week I also shared how I added some festive decor to our bedroom. A garland seems to instantly make any space cozier and I also added some extra throws and pillows.

Thank you SO much friends for stopping by today! It means so much to have you come to my little corner of blogland!!

Be sure to stop by the rest of the ladies sharing their homes today and then stop by each day for the rest! I’m sure you’re in for a treat!

How to Create a Fall Outdoor Tablescape | Joy in Our Home

Enjoy a lovely meal outside this fall… using décor straight from nature.

I’m so excited to share my Fall Outdoor Tablescape with ya’ll today! I had so much fun creating this table spread and loved that I used mostly natural elements in my décor!

When my friend Tara of Lehman Lane invited me to take part in her Fall Outdoor Décor Tour I was so excited… and then quickly remembered I don’t have a decorated fall porch to share this year. Our rental home has a lovely front porch and I can just about imagine how beautiful and cozy it would look with our deck furniture on it. But the less we bring to this house, the less we have to move back to our own home when the time comes! So all that’s gracing our covered porch this fall is some mum plants 🙂

So, I decided to show you a little different outdoor décor today. Anyone that knows me, knows I LOVE eating outside. So I thought instead of eating off of paper plates this time around, I’d use our good dinnerware and set a beautiful fall tablescape! If you want to grab a Pumpkin Spice Latte or a mug of Chai Tea, go ahead! And then come along as I give you a little tour of our picnic spot.

I’ve wanted to set a pretty outdoor tablescape for quite some time now. We’ve been having the most gorgeous fall weather and this week seemed like the perfect opportunity to get out there and do it!

As I thought of decorating my table, I knew I wanted mostly natural elements to decorate with. The trees are so vibrant in yellows right now and the leaves looked beautiful against the white plates!

I love these pretty little white pumpkins my husband brought home from the store this week and they were perfect for spreading out on the table.

I used some branches right from the trees to create a tall centerpiece. Candles always add such a cozy feel to any meal and I knew they’d be the perfect to add to my table.

One of my very favorite plants are succulents and I knew I wanted to use these plants on my table. These two plants are actually from my sister’s wedding this past July. I was her maid of honour and the succulent was in my bouquet. The florist had said they can’t be replanted as their roots have been “stripped”…. but after the wedding I stuck the flowers in waterbottles and they drove the 1,000 km home with us. I planted them and they’re thriving! So proud of my nearly-nonexistent green thumb!

I love the contrast of the yellow and red leaves!! I had thought about buying a fall bouquet but really loved using the leaves right from the woods behind the table!

Aren’t these mini pumpkins the cutest thing ever? As soon as we enter a grocery store, my eyes are drawn to pumpkins. Any shape, color and size. Imperfections and all.

I’m so happy how my tablescape turned out and here’s hoping we have a nice, long warm fall so we can do this again!

I hope you all enjoyed my Outdoor Fall Tablescape and maybe even inspired you to get outside and enjoy a pretty meal outdoors!

Before you go, be sure to check out all these other beautiful outdoor spaces!! So much pretty fall décor!
