Lemon Poppyseed Bundt Cake | Joy in Our Home

 Hello Friends!

How are y’all doing? It’s hard to believe January is almost gone and I couldn’t let National Citrus Month slip away without sharing a citrusy recipe!! It seems like each trip to the grocery store lately includes picking up some juicy oranges or lemons and today I want to share our very favourite lemon cake with you!

This cake is super easy to whip up, smells soo delicious as it’s baking and will be gobbled up faster than you can imagine! I have made it so often that I mix it up from memory now. It starts with a boxed cake mix and while I try to keep packaged foods out of our grocery cart, I do keep a couple cake mixes on hand in case I need a dessert on short notice.

Lemon Poppyseed Bundt Cake

  1. 1 white or lemon boxed cake mix
  2. 1/8 cup poppy seeds
  3. 1 pkg. instant lemon pudding mix (3.5 ounces)
  4. 1/2 cup oil
  5. 4 large eggs
  6. 1 cup water
  1. 1 tbsp. lemon juice (add more for desired consistency)
  2. 1 cup icing sugar
  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Beat cake ingredients for 2 minutes. Pour into well greased bundt pan. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  2. Invert cake and cool.
  3. Using a wire whisk, mix lemon juice and icing sugar until barely pourable. Use spoon to drizzle over cake and allow to run down sides.

Have a great rest of the week everyone and thanks so much for stopping by today!

One Room Challenge, Week 6: Bathroom Makeover Reveal | Joy in Our Home

Happiest Thursday to y’all!

If only you all knew how excited I am to share this post with you!

Back on April  2nd , I decided to jump onboard and tackle my 3rd ORC! I had made up my mind (or so I thought!) that I was going to skip this time around, but my husband convinced me and now I’m so glad I did! It.Is.DONE!!!

Here’s the recap if you wish to look back and see how far we’ve come:

Week 1: A Bathroom Makeover and A Plan

Week 2The Easiest & Quickest Way To Remove Linoleum

Week 3: Halfway Point of Our Makeover

Week 4: Paint Changes Everything

Week 5: Progress & Panic

I’ll just share the reveal pictures with you today, friends and post my sources for you next week in a separate post. That way I can just focus on the prettiness of this room without all the little extra details!

I absolutely looove how it turned out! We started out with a very dark slate and I just love this bright and white space now!

I find myself walking past this bathroom and just pause and take a peek in there! This room receives lots of natural light with a window in it so it just adds to the brightness of this space!

My original plan was to make this bathroom a “white & bright” space! I did end up adding it a little bit of color…I think it’s the perfect amount. And plants always add a natural element which I love! These little succulent is perfect for this shelf!

Every bathroom needs some pretties too! Candles are one of my favorite items to decorate with!

When I stumbled across this easel sign I knew it would be perfect for this bathroom. I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it before, but this is our kids’ bathroom and this sign is such a cute way of telling them that we love them more than ____________. There’s some interesting stuff that’s been written on it! Everything from Minecraft to chocolate chip cookies!

I couldn’t have done this makeover without my husband! I think he rocked these floating shelves! ! I sometimes feel sorry for him because I get this vision in my head for something and I can think waaaaay faster than I can talk so usually I’ll start rambling and I know that often he doesn’t have a clue what I want! lol! I love that patient and sweet husband of mine who puts up with me and my ideas! I hope to share the easy tutorial soon!

This towel rack is another DIY project…

Since we got rid of our handy and verrrrry practical medicine chest, I had to find some storage for their toiletries. I didn’t want to keep their toothbrushes on the counter and this wall storage serves double duty… towel rack and toothbrush storage!

It is always soo fun to look back and see how far you’ve come! Paint can make such a huge difference…. it is exactly the look we were aiming for!

I would like to say a huge thank you to Linda from Calling It Home for once again hosting this fun challenge! I know this room wouldn’t have gotten started (or done!) without these Thursday deadlines! Thank you to each one of you who has followed this 6 week journey with me… your encouraging comments were exactly what I needed and kept me going! I have said it before, but this blog wouldn’t be nearly as fun without you all!

Wishing you all a wonderful day…. and don’t forget to head over to see all the other amazing room reveals!!

Mini Herb Garden | Joy in Our Home

 Happy Friday everyone!

And here we are with our first week of June almost complete! Even though it’s not officially summer yet, I have “all-things” summer on my mind! Everything from sitting around the campfire to water fights in the backyard to lazy days at the beach! One of the things I look forward to the most are all the fresh fruits and veggies… and herbs. I usually plant my own and today I’d like to show you my own little herb garden!

Isn’t it the cutest?

My idea is, even gardens should be pretty, right? When I saw these little galvanized pots and holder at our Dollar Tree I knew they’d look so cute on the coffee table on the deck! For only $3, I wish I would’ve grabbed another one!

Last week, Home Depot had all their herbs on for 3/$5! Usually they’re $2.50 each so that was a great deal. I could’ve bought 6 more but our summer schedule is filling up so quickly and we’ll be gone for lots of days here and there. So I didn’t want to leave too much for the lucky person who gets to water all our pots. The 3 I chose were parsley, oregano and mint.

I screwed 3 holes in the bottom of each pot for draining and added some stones to the bottom. I then added some potting soil and planted them and that’s it! Super quick and easy and I was done!

The markers I made are super easy as well! Target dollar spot to the rescue! I used mini straws as the stick part and just wrapped some craft labels around them. Using a sharpie, I labeled the herbs and done!  I was going to use the mini clothes pins too but decided not too… so you won’t find them in the pictures in case you’re looking to see how I used them 😉

It is so handy to have them sitting on the deck and I can just clip off any I need whenever I want! I’ve already used the parsley lots …  mostly for soups and garnishes.

They look delicious enough to just pick off and have a taste!

Thanks SO much for stopping by today… wishing you all a very wonderful weekend! Also, if you’re a blogger, I’d love for you to stop by our link party Your Turn To Shine and share what you’ve been up to! I’d love to check it out!

xo, Kendra
