About Me | Joy in Our Home

Hello and welcome to my blog! I’m so glad you’re here! Please pour yourself a cup of tea, coffee or like me, sip on an ice cold Passion Tea Lemonade!

My name is Kendra and I am happily married to my very best friend, my biggest supporter and encouragement. He goes along with all of my crazy awesome ideas and I know I couldn’t run this blog without him! He is there for me when I need to meet a deadline, when a project doesn’t go as planned, or when technology frustrates me to no end! I’m the luckiest gal in the world!

We met fourteen years ago when I applied for a job where he was the manager…. I was smitten from the moment I met him! He interviewed me, hired me, asked me out and we fell in love! (Not as quickly as it sounds though! 😉 We will celebrate our 16th anniversary this year and I’m so thankful for him!

Our two greatest blessings in life are our sweet children. We have a precious, rough and tumble boy who is the life of the party and is scatterbrained just like Mama! Our daughter has the most infectious laugh and is thoughtful and sweet to the core. Needless to say, they are our world!

This blog is my creative outlet where I share our DIY projects around our home, a recipe that our family loves and other décor ideas!

Some random things I enjoy:

  • Redoing furniture –  I enjoy taking an old and neglected piece and bring it back to life with a brush and a can of paint!
  • Thrifting and garage sales. I’ll take these two any day over the mall.
  • Camping. I love, love getting away and camping with our family! Even if it means being unplugged and without wifi, I’m okay with that 🙂
  • Reading. I have a weakness for a good book… and can hardly put it down once I pick one up!

More than all of these though, I love my family and am blessed with the greatest parents in the world and my sweet siblings and their families.

Above anything else, I love Jesus and my greatest purpose in life is to serve Him. I am nothing without Him.

Thanks for taking the time to visit! I hope you stay a while!

Snowy Winter Farmhouse Centerpiece | Joy in Our Home

A beautiful collection of Christmas inspiration- from home tours and DIY gifts to centerpieces and tablescapes, there’s sure to be something to inspire you this holiday season!

It seems so fitting that we are wrapped in a winter wonderland outside and today I’m sharing our Snowy Winter Farmhouse centerpiece.

It’s been a while since I shared and while we’ve been so busy with other things, I was so happy when Leen from Sand Dollar Lane asked me to join her Christmas blog hop. There’s so many wonderful blogging friends, old and new, that are sharing today and you can see the list of them at the bottom of my post. If you’re stopping from my friend Erin from Elizabeth Joan Designs, welcome!!

I love showing my readers that decorating your home any time of the year and especially for the holidays doesn’t have to cost a lot. I often use what I already have or pieces that I found at yard sales and thrift stores and repurpose them. Before I share my centerpiece with you, let’s take a little walk down memory lane at other Christmas posts I’ve shared…

My DIY 3-tiered tray decorated for Christmas

Simple Farmhouse Home Tour

our Cozy Christmas Bedroom.

I wanted something simple for our table this year and when I saw these cute bottle brush trees at the Dollar store I grabbed 5 packages and knew I would use them in our decor somehow. I also picked up a package of the faux snow.

I actually contemplated sharing this because somehow it seems too easy! But easy is perfectly okay, right?! I added some faux snow to an assortment of jars we already had on hand and then added a tree to each jar.

And now here’s a list of so many beautiful Christmas home tours, DIY gift ideas and centerpieces/tablescapes! Next up is Thistle Key Lane’s beautiful vintage ticking and plaid holiday tablescape! Hopefully you’ll find something that inspires you in your decor or gift-giving this year! Thanks for stopping by, friends!

Rustic Holiday Deer Decor | Joy in Our Home

Add a touch of rustic to your home this season with this Holiday Deer!

Is it feeling wintery in your neck of the woods yet? Last week was so cold (my southern friends probably can’t imagine this but we’re sporting all our winter gear already) No mistaking it, winter’s arrived!

This post contains affiliate links. Please note, if you buy anything through the links, you never ever pay a penny more! You’re just helping support my little blog 🙂 For my full disclosure, click here.

And so has the holiday season! I’m so excited to be joining some of my talented blogging friends in Have Yourself a Merry Little DIY blog hop hosted by my sweet friend Kelly from The Tattered Pew!

If you’re stopping by from Roxanne at The Honeycomb Home, welcome! Her boxwood wreath is perfect for the holidays and would be so fun to make!

I’m sharing a Rustic Holiday Deer decor that I finished this week and I think he’s my new favorite piece! He adds just the right bit of rustic to our farmhouse home. Although a little time consuming, it’s still very easy to make!

Here’s what you’ll need:

I started at the nose since it’s a fairly straight area with no curves. Using the glue gun, glue the beginning piece of jute and then start wrapping around the very bottom part of the nose. Once you bring it to the back of the deer, secure it with glue. I kept going all the way around including his ears. Once I reached the top of his face I cut the jute twine and was ready to start on the first antler.

I actually didn’t wrap the twine all the way around the antlers. You could if you wanted to but I just applied a strip of glue to the front, laid down the jute, cut the other end and then secured both ends to the back with glue. It just seemed to go quicker and I had more control over the pieces as they didn’t move on me.

For a project like this, hot glue really is magic. It can secure all those loose strands and hold everything securely in place!

Next, be sure to head over to Brendt from She Gave It A Go and check out her beautiful holiday gallery wall! I’ve always wanted to do one and maybe this is the year! And of course, take a peek at all the other beautiful holiday DIY’s down below! You’re sure to be inspired with all kinds of different ideas!
