It’s officially time for holiday baking and all the Christmas treats!

Today I’m so excited to be joining a cookie blog hop hosted by Jo-Anna from A Pretty Life. If you’ve never visited her blog, you must… not only is her home beautiful, but her food photography is amazing!

There’s 12 of us Canadian gals sharing some sweet treats from our kitchens. You can find all the yummy cookie recipes at the end of this post!Cookies are a big hit in our home and usually it’s my husband and daughter baking our favorite gingersnap cookies this time of year. However, for this blog hop I thought I’d share a new favorite – Chocolate Peppermint Biscotti. As our son was munching one, he declared “these are my new favorite cookies.”

I’m pretty sure I agree.

The rich chocolate taste is incredible and the hint of peppermint is the perfect pairing. And now that winter is here, I’m a tea drinker again and I find that’s the perfect accompia or maybe you’d rather a cup of eggnog? Either way, if you want to add a new cookie to your holiday baking, give these a try!

We baked the “loaves” on silicone mats and if you don’t own any of these for baking, I cannot say enough about them! A couple of weeks ago my friend showed me a picture of some cookies that hadn’t turned out and I felt more sorry for her for the time she’d spend scrubbing the pan. I recommended these mats to her and she bought them the next day and has raved about them ever since. We’ve had them for a few years and anyone who bakes needs some of these. (They’d also make excellent gifts so grab a set here!)

I’d love to know if you’ve ever tried making biscotti? We’re on a roll now and want to try a few other combinations! Like orange and cranberries? Or gingerbread? But in the meantime, here’s lots more cookies to keep you in your kitchen!

Cranberry Pear French Toast with Vanilla Cream Sauce | Joy in Our Home

Do you have a special dish you make on Christmas morning? My husband always makes cinnamon buns but this year we’ll be adding a few new recipes to the menu!

When Jo-Anna from A Pretty Life organized this Christmas Morning Breakfast Ideas I knew I had to share one of our favorites. French Toast is hands down my favorite breakfast food ever. And eggs. And cereal. And my baked oatmeal.

Okay, I admit, I love any and all breakfast foods. And after discovering this Caramel French Toast that literally takes 10 minutes to make the night before, I’ve been drawn to all French Toast recipes.

So when I saw this Cranberry Pear French Toast I knew I had to try it. My husband and daughter eat a huge bag of pears a week so I knew this would be a big hit. The sweet flavors of pear and the tart bursts of cranberries are the perfect combination with bread that’s perfectly seasoned with spices. Add a vanilla sauce and perfection!

Cranberry Pear French Toast with Vanilla Cream Sauce

  1. 1 loaf bread, cut into cubes
  2. 1 cup fresh cranberries (fresh or frozen)
  3. 1 cup diced pears
  4. 2 cups milk
  5. 4 large eggs
  6. ¼ cup honey
  7. 2 tsp vanilla extract
  8. ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  9. ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  1. 1/2 cup sugar
  2. 3 tbsp. brown sugar
  3. 1 tbsp. flour
  4. 1 large egg
  5. 2 tbsp. butter, melted
  6. 1 cup whipping cream
  7. 1 tbsp. vanilla
  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Place the bread cubes in a 9X13″ baking dish.
  3. Toss in the cranberries and diced pears.
  4. Whisk the milk, eggs, honey, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg together in a mixing bowl.
  5. Pour the mixture into the baking dish covering the fruit and bread.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes.
  1. Whisk sauce ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat, until mixture is smooth.
  2. Continue to stir until sauce thickens, about 8 minutes.
  3. Serve warm with French toast.
