Mason Jar Herb Garden | Joy in Our Home

If you enjoy using herbs in your kitchen, this is a easy and quick method of planting herbs to enjoy all summer long!

Who’s excited for planting season?? (Insert both hands hiiiigh in the air)

I cannot wait until we see flowers, herbs and vegetables popping up all over our favorite stores. I look forward to visiting our favorite greenhouses and filling pots with my favorite flowers.

I used to think I needed a nice, big garden plot in order to enjoy veggies and herbs. But not everyone is able to devote a large size piece of their yard or land to use for a garden. So today, I’m teaming up with one of my favorite online shops to show you how you can “think outside the box” when it comes to using planters!

(This post was sponsored by Wayfair. Please see my full disclosure and privacy policy here.)

After seeing this mason jar caddy, I knew it would be perfect to plant either some succulents or herbs in it. The mason jars are the perfect size and I love anything galvanized so I fell in love with this set!!

These chalkboard markers are perfect for labeling your herbs! I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not an expert when it comes to gardening and thyme and oregano might just confuse me sometimes! 😉

The first thing I did was place some mini rocks at the very bottom of my jars before filling them a little over half ways with potting soil. I then gently placed one herb in each jar, packing down the soil around the mouth of the jar.

I was surprised to see such a good selection of herbs in store already. Here in Canada our planting season is a little later than many of my readers and friends south of the border so I quickly grabbed a few of my favorites.

The four I chose are parsley, oregano, lemon thyme and spearmint.

I love how portable this tray is… I know it’ll move around the house all summer long. I love having it on the windowsill in front of our kitchen sink and just today I clipped off some oregano and parsley for this delicious Beefy Tortellini Bake. Come summertime, I’ll place it outside on our patio where it can thrive in the sunshine.

I think the options are endless when it comes to choosing the “perfect planter”. Succulents would look adorable in these tea cups or even these beautiful candle lanterns. If your décor is more country, how about this rustic kitchen caddy? Some of these items just seem to find their way into my “cart” when I’m perusing this site…. so many fabulous items to use for planters around our home!

I’m all about using items for multi-purposes and I’m already thinking of using this set for a hot chocolate bar come wintertime. But until then, I’m going to enjoy these herbs planted in this pretty set!

Thanks so much for stopping by today,

10 Beautiful Farmhouse Kitchens | Joy in Our Home

Kitchens are the heart of the home, right?

They definitely are for us. It’s where our favorite meals get made. Where my husband bakes his delicious desserts with our daughter. Where we gather as a family 7 days a week for supper and spend time catching up on each other’s day. It’s where we play our families’ favorite board games. And it’s where we host many of our family and friends and enjoy good  food and fellowship. Kitchens really are the heart of our home.

That’s why I thought I’d share some of my very favorite farmhouse style kitchens today. So many of the features in these kitchens are my style and if I could, I’d choose something from each of them and incorporate them into our kitchen! From the farmhouse sinks to the white cabinets to the beautiful tile, farmhouse kitchens really are the style I’m drawn to time and again.

They speak to me of times gone by… when kitchens were the place where bread was baked every few days, where the garden’s bountiful harvest was preserved. And where homecooked meals were made daily.

Let’s take a peek at some of them…

(Please remember, if you’d like to pin any of these, the original source is listed below each picture!)

Joy In Our Home

This is our own kitchen, and while it’s not completely finished yet, I thought I’d share it anyway. A few weeks ago I asked on Instagram about a backsplash. I can’t make up my mind between shiplap or subway tile. I’m planning on doing a detailed post on our kitchen reveal soon! There’s just a few other things in the works until I can share it all!

Aren’t they all so beautiful? There’s something I love about every single one.

Just wondering what your kitchen style is? Farmhouse, modern, country… or none of these? Kitchens are the room that I’m drawn to first in any home tour or open house that I go through. I’d love to hear about yours in the comments below.

Thanks for stopping by today, friends and soak up those last few weeks of summer, friends!
