Hello everyone! Here we are at week 2 of the One Room Challenge! In case you missed last week’s post, you can check it out here.

With Easter this past weekend and spring break this week, it doesn’t seem like I accomplished too, too much! However, what I did do in our bathroom makeover is likely the most time consuming… and hard-on-the-knee- work… but it’s done now!

Let’s quickly take a look back… here’s our before:

And here is what we’re aiming for…

This week it’s all about the linoleum. If you follow me on Instagram, you might remember me posting a picture last month of us removing 600+ square feet of lino. After all that, you can officially call us lino-removing experts. I’ll share with you the process…

Last month when my husband and I started ripping out the first piece of linoleum from our kitchen/dining room , we kinda looked at each other in disbelief! Neither one of us wanted to be the first to ask out loud if we were crazy tackling this huge of a project. It felt like it would take weeks to remove! After trying a few different things, but here’s what worked best!

  • Using an exacto knife, cut “lines” into the area of linoleum you’re wanting to remove. These can be totally random… there is no exact way to do it.  I did ours about a foot wide (you’ll see later on why I only did it this wide.)
  • Using a fairly wet rag, lay it on the linoleum that you’re removing. Place iron on the cloth and heat well.  (This is why I only “cut” the linoleum about a foot wide. It’s approximately the same width as the iron). Using a scraper, start pulling the linoleum.
  • Depending how well your linoleum is glued down, removing it will vary. Some areas are easy and pulling it out goes quickly. Other times, you need a scraper to help it along.

Heating up the linoleum “melts’ the glue underneath and makes removing it soo much easier! It’s an amazing little “trick” you need when removing lino!

And here’ it is all taken out! Wahoooo!!!

I also removed the medicine cabinet and here’s the big blank space where it used to be! I cannot wait to go mirror shopping this weekend!

It seems like this week was about the little things…. removing hardware, fixtures, towel rods, etc. I’ve learned though, that these little things are so important to get you to the “bigger” things!

Thanks ya’ll for following along! I was blown by all the encouraging comments you left for me last week when I started this ORC! Hope you have a great rest of the week, friends!
